Scotch Bonnet & Lemon wins two stars at the 2022 Great Taste Awards

More than 14,000 products were put through the competition’s rigorous blind judging process; and Sylt’s entry was dubbed 'surprising and brilliant' at the world’s most coveted food and drink awards. 4,078 products were awarded a Great Taste 1-star – ‘food and drink that delivers fantastic flavour’, 1,237 were awarded a Great Taste 2-star – ‘above and beyond delicious’, and 241 were awarded a Great Taste 3-star – ‘extraordinarily tasty food and drink’.

The pickling liquid was a big hit with the Great Taste judges too, which feedback read: 

‘A perfectly judged recipe with the warmth of the Scotch bonnet pitched at exactly the right level. We were very pleasantly surprised by this entry which woke up our taste buds and would do the same for many ingredients. Perhaps consider marketing this as more than just a pickling liquid.

This product has an attractive appearance. On its nose, there are lemon and fruity notes. On taste, we like the fruity flavour and heat of the scotch bonnets combined with the acidity of the red wine vinegar and balanced sweetness.

We were intrigued by the complex aroma from this pickling liquid, with hints of zesty lime and the slight hue from the red wine vinegar. We really loved the immediate fruity and zesty flavour, with the heat from the scotch bonnets really lifting it up and carrying it across layers of the citric and red wine acids. This would have so many uses, from cocktails to crazy-good salad dressings. Brilliant work. It's very close to a three-star for us.’
